This isn't so different from Brooklyn and Madison's trash monster project in my last blog. It's fun to make things out of "trash". Only, my "trash" was old shirts.</div><br /><div align="center">Here are a few things I've made so far....</div><div align="center"> </div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341821555275049970" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SiH2Zv-xq_I/AAAAAAAAAe8/EW8-q2C95H0/s320/crafts+09+028.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">Coasters for your drinks.</div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341821550744333314" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SiH2ZfGkbAI/AAAAAAAAAe0/zbaAWPyw_8w/s320/crafts+09+031.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">A little cell phone bag for Nana. She needs to keep her cell phone on her when she is by herself in her house in case she falls or has an emergency. This is made from a french cuff in a men's shirt. The 4 button holes lined up perfectly for me to thread the thin rope through to make the strap. I sewed up the sides and added a little clay bead I made. Her cell phone fits nicely inside. </div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341821538883099938" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SiH2Yy6oXSI/AAAAAAAAAes/DFpB2pdGwPI/s320/crafts+09+027.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">I also use men's cuff's to put around a cold soda to keep hands from getting cold and wet. I used to use paper napkins around a drink. This works perfectly. Neato.</div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341821537406067186" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SiH2YtaeofI/AAAAAAAAAek/I2UtevqHAlY/s320/crafts+09+037.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">Here is a very simple bookmark. It's made from shirt scraps. I fused the white flower (a scrap from a white shirt) and used a black pen to make it look like button hole stitches. I just added a little button on some yarn and there you go....</div><br /><div align="center">Ok, now this one got me excited. I used the back panal of a men's shirt to make a very simple apron.</div><div align="center"> </div><div align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341821531051410690" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SiH2YVvaRQI/AAAAAAAAAec/5PERQKWP6g4/s320/crafts+09+054.jpg" border="0" /></div><div align="center"> The side and bottom seams are all finished already from the constuction of the shirt. I just sewed up the top, added ties and a pocket and buttons from a thift store dress I cut up. I used these points instead of the usual ribbon. I think it makes it more appropriate for boys. This one is for Donovan and he can fiddle and suck on the points all he wants. (Dave and I get to go see Donovan and Scott and Kiana next weekend for his Blessing. We can't wait!) </div><div align="center">The other side is a soft blue fleece.</div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341819579585531698" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SiH0mv9sDzI/AAAAAAAAAd8/gFCq3jgtpcA/s320/crafts+09+044.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">I love to make pillows. </div><div align="center">Here is one I made from the same shirt as my apron. I added a blue shirt for the border.<br /></div><div align="center">Now the cool part is the back.</div><div align="center"> </div><div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341819582297017698" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SiH0m6EKDWI/AAAAAAAAAeE/UYqw3Q33eRs/s320/crafts+09+043.jpg" border="0" /></div><div> I used the front part of the shirt with the buttons. It makes it easy to insert the pillow form into the pillow, and then you button it closed. I had cut off the one side of the shirt for a lining (with pocket included) for a cute bag I'll show you later. So I sewed on the pink poka dot fabric which makes it cuter anyway.</div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5341819569832611250" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SiH0mLoaTbI/AAAAAAAAAd0/ClA23M5nXCo/s320/crafts+09+060.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">This pillow I made about 12 years ago. It needed a boost, so I made some yo yo's from a shirt to add some fun. </div><br /><div align="center">I found these wacky pajama's at the salvation army. Cute dogs having lots of summer fun. I used the waist strings for the bag's ties. I lined it with the white shirt I mentioned earlier. Using a shirt with a pocket already on it makes it an easy way to line a bag with a pocket. He's a golfer and so I really wanted this quilt to have some golf mention in it....</div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291962996534988994" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SXDUTqz60MI/AAAAAAAAAYI/BRuKgF16ap0/s320/Dec.+08+008.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">...so I included this golf flannel in each block. </div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291962998936024434" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SXDUTzwXtXI/AAAAAAAAAYQ/sIlPiSJh0yc/s320/Dec.+08+025.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">I really surprised him, and he loves it.<br /></div><div align="center">I finished my beehive quilt too. Remember the<a href="http://janisshipley.blogspot.com/2008/09/grrrrrr.html"> ric rack </a>problem I had before? Well as you can see, there is no ric rac in my quilt. </div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291963007139156610" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SXDUUSUJkoI/AAAAAAAAAYg/fsW_mGo7Nfg/s320/1-16-09+002.jpg" border="0" /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291963010882849218" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SXDUUgQtycI/AAAAAAAAAYo/73u7vOgtids/s320/1-16-09+004.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">I might as well show my little chipmunk I made for Craig. When your 23 year old college son asks you to make it for him (<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Happy-Gloves-Charming-Friends-Colorful/dp/1557885397">he saw it in this book</a>) what else are you going to do?</div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5291963002833361202" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SXDUUCRkWTI/AAAAAAAAAYY/u6xKIGz6cjw/s320/Dec.+08+019.jpg" border="0" /><br />I have many projects in the works. I have a new grandson coming in April. Macy will be turning 3 in March and will get a big girl quilt for her bed. That is a tradition I have started (be careful of the traditions you start). Brooklyn is turning 8 in a few weeks and I want to do something special for her. Lori Ann and Grace both have birthdays coming up as well. Being a grammy is alot of fun and it keeps me busy. More pictures to come.Janishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03065901103058663395noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5210500667743580487.post-47865610831353751192009-01-07T10:28:00.000-08:002009-01-16T11:09:01.057-08:00Lucy Goosey<div align="center">I have to show you this cute goose I made from this web site </div><div align="center"><a href="http://http://thelongthread.com/">The long thread</a><br />Her name is Lucy Goosey.</div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288623994141897954" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SWT3gJlvdOI/AAAAAAAAAXk/t1eXcrPpyDc/s320/Lucy+Goosey+1-09+001.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">She is a little naughty. </div><div align="center">I've found her climbing in trees...</div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288624001896844162" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SWT3gmeqi4I/AAAAAAAAAXs/jtMJ1vWV1gU/s320/Lucy+Goosey+1-09+006.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">She keeps hiding from me too.</div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288624005203659554" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SWT3gyzEiyI/AAAAAAAAAX0/h37jiAU4hFY/s320/Lucy+Goosey+1-09+008.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">Apparently, she's been learning a few things from the Big Footed Bunny.</div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5288626051189178882" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SWT5X4sCAgI/AAAAAAAAAX8/34dVeOteB88/s320/Lucy+Goosey+and+bunny+003.jpg" border="0" />Janishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03065901103058663395noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5210500667743580487.post-7286485354575942462009-01-05T11:09:00.000-08:002009-01-05T11:41:02.234-08:00Happy Birthday Oliver<div align="center">Happy 1st birthday Oliver!<br /></div><br /><div align="center">Grammy made me for you and I'll soon be on my way to your house.</div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287891273575257010" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SWJdGMxXU7I/AAAAAAAAAXE/PIdyskA8noM/s320/big+footed+bunny+1-09+010.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">We can climb trees together...<br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287891287158838722" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SWJdG_X8VcI/AAAAAAAAAXM/yN3xEVBgIM0/s320/big+footed+bunny+1-09+016.jpg" border="0" /><br /><p align="center">And play hide and go seek. She wanted to make her baby a quilt, but didn't know how...... so that's where I come in. When she was looking through all my many patterns, she came across this adorable chicken pattern and knew that was the one she wanted to make.</div><div align="center"> </div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218480437640919010" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SGvETzDpd-I/AAAAAAAAAIQ/zCDAJRccuDg/s320/7-01-08+026.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><div align="center">Then we played with my stash of fabric and she picked out the ones she wanted to have in her quilt. ( I'm showing a picture of part of my stash because, well, I just cleaned and organized it and I love the way it looks. It won't be long before it's a wild mess again). Audrey did the fusing and buttonhole stitching around the chickens and pieced the top. She wasn't quite ready for machine quilting, so I quilted it for her. </div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218478921350993170" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SGvC7ib9VRI/AAAAAAAAAHw/XAgB7oyP9e8/s320/7-01-08+027.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">Last night was a baby shower for Audrey and she showed her quilt she made. Notice that she even changed the pattern to make it her own. Everyone loved it. Isn't it adorable? Audrey's pretty adorable as well.</div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218478925096958578" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SGvC7wZEOnI/AAAAAAAAAH4/oyFHJPynWJk/s320/7-01-08+024.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218478936554857122" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SGvC8bE14qI/AAAAAAAAAIA/t9qMqKBJVYY/s320/7-01-08+002.jpg" border="0" /> For her shower, I made these baby blocks. My friend Jeanne Pryor made this pattern and it was published in the Quilts and More magazine (spring 08 issue). I cut my squares 4" instead of 3". They are easy and fun to make and babies love them. Who wouldn't? They're soft and squishy.</p><p align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218478940600992866" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SGvC8qJhBGI/AAAAAAAAAII/gMl_aRmWITc/s320/7-01-08+012.jpg" border="0" /><br />Quilting is such a wonderful hobby and craft, and it's great to get the younger generation interested. They add alot of creativity and youthfullness. I hope Audrey continues making quilts, and will ask me for help along the way. She was a great student and I am impressed with how well she did. It was lots of fun.</p>Janishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03065901103058663395noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5210500667743580487.post-42463259487692568952008-06-27T20:47:00.000-07:002008-12-09T05:18:38.889-08:00What is that bird?<div align="center">"Quilt Retreat". Those are my favorite 2 words. Sunday I was invited to pack my bags and be ready the next day to join Carol and Irene at Alene's cabin for a couple of days of quilting bliss.</div><div align="center"><br /></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216788495264060226" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SGXBfyiPE0I/AAAAAAAAAHg/55cQBR-6ygk/s320/Quilt+Retreat+05-10-03+010.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">We enjoyed the weather and the quiet peacefullness. I wish I had a picture of the deer walking right by us as we sat on the porch. Oh, and if only I had a picture of the bird flying by. We thought at first it was an Eagle.... then maybe a Toucan.... what is that thing?...... Oh my goodness, it's a crow with a roll in it's mouth. I don't think I'll ever see that again in my lifetime.<br /><br />Alene has an older friend that gave her this beautiful vintage fabric. We ended up all making bags for ourselves out of it.</div><br /><br /><div align="center"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216782725665903714" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SGW8P9G11GI/AAAAAAAAAHI/7ew9reSqjOs/s320/6-21-08+015.jpg" border="0" /><br />I made some yo yo's for some future project that I need to come up with.</div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216784334276033954" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" height="235" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SGW9tlpYfaI/AAAAAAAAAHY/V6JF4qJPvtI/s320/6-21-08+014.jpg" width="320" border="0" /><br /><br /><div align="center">We have a quilt block exchange coming up in July. It was beautiful, and Glenda packed in a full and fun week for Jacque, Pat, Carol and me. We had a riot of a time on the <a href="http://www.nashtrash.com/">Nashtrash Tour</a>. </div><div align="center"></div><div align="center"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214534811954829682" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SF2_yJ952XI/AAAAAAAAAEA/g7qwzFrOgXQ/s320/Franklin+Tennessee+08+005.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">We had a wonderful and entertaining night at the<a href="http://www.spiritmag.com/2008_06/features/ft3.php"> Bluebird Cafe</a>, and ate at the <a href="http://www.lovelesscafe.com/">Loveless Cafe </a>and had the world famous biscuits. </div><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214534817623421186" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SF2_yfFZsQI/AAAAAAAAAEI/pahtfvY1eCw/s320/Franklin+Tennessee+08+014.jpg" border="0" /><br /><div align="center">Lots and lots of antique malls and garage sales and the best flea market at the Nahville fair grounds. I was in heaven. Glenda got this beautiful white iron table and chairs for only $100. We had so much fun we went back again. Now I'm going to dream about that flea market....</div><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214534823532692786" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SF2_y1GSBTI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/yTaWmgTPReI/s320/Franklin+Tennessee+08+038.jpg" border="0" /> <p align="center">I got this pink antique quilt for under $40.<br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214534828337531714" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SF2_zG_2C0I/AAAAAAAAAEY/bGIoAwMSItc/s320/6-21-08+005.jpg" border="0" /></p><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5214534833020622290" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_4jkk-_mnTP8/SF2_zYcYVdI/AAAAAAAAAEg/AuJWqLIOtwc/s320/6-21-08+007.jpg" border="0" /> <p align="center">Isn't this a cute little apron? When it was time for us to leave, Glenda ran into the ladies room..... she thought. When she started to leave the stall she was in she saw a man using the urinal and she screamed and slammed the stall door. (Later she told us that the poor guy had a tough time finishing his task). She called me on my cell and wispered with panic in her voice "I'm in the men's room and I'm trapped" I asked her what was I supposed to do about it? When she finally came out she told us that she didn't even notice the urinals when she went in and she had to wait untill the room was empty before she could make her escape. We laughed all the rest of the way back to Tennessee. It was great!</div><br /><div align="center">This quilt shop was closed....darn. Oh well, their loss.
